Free Education Programs: BAC offers many free art education events each year. You can meet artists in the Gallery talking about their work, or demonstrating their materials and techniques. We’ve had special guest lecturers speak on topics as varied as studio glass, Japanese American furniture design, and the history of the Museum of Modern Art. We also offer an occasional 15-minute art history discussion in the gallery.

A CALL FOR ARTISTS
What is Mixed Nuts?
Mixed Nuts is a special exhibition that will give kids a chance to learn about how art galleries work and what it’s like to be a professional artist.
Kids will also have a chance to sell their work! They’ll sign a contract, they’ll write an artist statement, their work will be on exhibition in the gallery for a month, and it will be for sale. If the work sells, the student keeps 50% of the selling price just like all our artists and the gallery gets a 50% commission (a fee paid to an agent for transacting a piece of business or performing a service).
IMPORTANT DATES: January 20, contracts due (no exceptions); February 1, work is due to BAC.
Who is eligible?
All Kids in K-12 who live or go to school on Bainbridge Island or whose parents work or show their art on Bainbridge Island.
What kind of Art?
Painting, sculpture, drawing, prints, collage, ceramics, jewelry, woodworking, photography, computer art. Or maybe something we haven’t thought about yet. Talk to us!
How many pieces may I submit to the show?
Two is the most you may submit.
Will all work be accepted into the exhibition?
Every work of art submitted will be shown at the Gallery provided that it is “professionally” presented. Inappropriate subject matter will not be shown.
Do I have to frame my art?
Yes! If it hangs on the wall then your work must be framed, including a wire on the back! Here’s a big hint! Buy an inexpensive frame now! Then make your work to fit the frame. Wire kits are sold at Ace Hardware.
What can I charge for my Art work?
Each work, regardless of size or medium, will be sold for $75.00.
What if I can’t meet the deadline?
We won’t be able to include you. Please participate next year.
